The Princess Margaret Biosciences Oncology Leadership Development Program (BOLD) is an opportunity to develop self-awareness, communication and management skills to lead projects and research teams, and connect with other Princess Margaret Postdoctoral Researchers, senior PhD students, and leaders in academia, research, healthcare and industry.
Approximately 20-30% of cancer patients actively smoke at diagnosis. Helping patients quit smoking can result in: improved patient outcomes, better tolerance to treatments, reduced side effects, lowered disease recurrence and risk of secondary cancers, better survival and quality of life. Healthcare providers offering advice and support can greatly increase the chances that a patient will quit. This course provides evidence and tips for talking to patients and their families about smoking cessation.
